CORE BELIEFS & VALUES

Core Beliefs

These Three Short Phrases Summarize Our Identity

We are:

Christ Centered
Community Focused
Missions Oriented

The God we serve is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit – three in one and one in three:

We believe that God the Father reigns with providential care over humans and human history. He is our Creator and Provider: a great and mighty God, sovereign over all.

We believe that God the Son, Jesus Christ, is the Savior of the world.  He is our Lord and Master: a gracious and loving redeemer, fully human and fully divine.

We believe that God the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, calls people to the Savior, and bestows spiritual gifts.  He is our Comforter and Guide: a convicting and enabling presence.

We believe that the Holy Trinity is the only full expression of the One True God.

Beyond the above, here are some of the major points in our faith:

SCRIPTURE: We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and that it is without error. It is the final authority in matters of faith and life for every believer, and it provides God’s perfect counsel for everyday life. (Psalm 119:10-11; Isaiah 40:8; 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21, Matthew 5:18; John 16:12-13).

SALVATION: We believe Jesus Christ provides the sole basis for the forgiveness of our rebellion (our sin) against God.  All human beings are created in the image of God. However, our rebellion against God disfigures this image and separates us from Him. Only through faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior can we be restored into a relationship with God and receive His gift of eternal life. (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 1:16-18; 3:22-23; 5:12; 6:23; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:1-3, 8-9)

THE CHURCH: We believe that the church is the body of Christ.  With Jesus Christ as the head, it exists to reveal God’s love and perform God’s will on earth. Believers are called to invest themselves in the life and work of this community of God.  (Matthew 16:17-18;  Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 12; Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 1:22)

CHURCH MEMBERSHIP: We believe baptism provides the biblical way of entrance.  Baptism is the biblically ordained sign of the believer’s faith commitment and is therefore an act of discipleship. As such, it follows a confession of personal faith and exemplifies the believer’s participation in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  (Matthew 3:13-17; 28:18-20; Acts 8:36-38; Romans 6:3-4; Colossians 2:12)

PARTICIPATION IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH: We believe each believer is called upon by God to share his or her faith with those who live without a faith commitment to Christ.  Jesus commissioned all his followers to be His witnesses, both locally and globally.  They are to make disciples of all nations by going, by baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and by teaching everything Jesus commanded. (Matthew 10:32; 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 1:16-17; Colossians 1:6)

THE GROWTH AND DEEPENING OF ONE'S FAITH: We believe each follower of Jesus must be engaged in a life-long process of strengthening his or her relationship with Christ.  Spiritual formation involves the disciplined learning of Scriptural truths and the integration of these into our daily experience of life.  This imitation of Christ is an ongoing process of maturing growth that produces new life both in ourselves and in those with whom we come in contact. (John 3: 3, 7; 14:6; Romans 8:28-30; 2 Corinthians 3:17-18; Colossians 3:1-17)

OUR RESOURCES: We believe we are mere stewards of God’s creation.  We honor him when we care for his creation and when we share our possessions with those in need.  As obedient stewards, we are to invest our time, talents, and treasures in the work of God’s Kingdom. (Genesis 1:28; Psalm 24:1-2; Malachi 3:8-12; Matthew 6:1-4; 2 Corinthians 8:1-7)

OUR ETERNAL HOPE: We believe in the soon return to earth of Jesus Christ.  In God’s perfect timing, Jesus Christ will return to the earth as Lord.  His return will be the fulfillment and final consummation of the purposes of God’s Kingdom. (Matthew 24:29-31; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-5:11; Revelation 21:1-4; 22:1-5)

GATHER - GROW  - GO

Because Jesus was raised on the first day of the week, Sunday quickly became a special day for his disciples. On the Lord’s day, disciples gather to publicly worship the Lord and to learn His word. Sunday mornings, we gather in corporate worship. Jesus’ disciples strive to be like Him. Jesus met with his Father daily in prayer and worship. Every day, followers of Jesus meet with their Father to pray and worship. For believers, public worship and daily private worship is a priority.

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP HIM!

Believers need authentic relationships to be like Jesus. These cannot be formed in corporate worship alone. In small groups, we come to know other disciples and to be known by them. True fellowship is sharing life together. Through our Bible Study Life Groups and discipleship classes, we seek to foster biblical friendships. These groups ensure that you are prayed for, supported, encouraged, equipped, and held accountable in your Christian life.

WE GROW TO BE MORE LIKE HIM!

Because Jesus “did not come to be served, but to serve,” His disciples look for ways to serve others. When you gather and grow, you are being served more than you serve. But when you go, you take what you’ve been given and share it with others. Depending on the way the Lord has gifted and called you, you may serve inside or outside the church. At some point, you will stop growing as a Christian if you do not go, taking what you have been given, and investing it in other people. In the end, disciples make disciples who make disciples.

WE GO TO SERVE HIM!
